William Haywood Henderson is the author of three acclaimed novels set in the American West - Augusta Locke, The Rest of the Earth, and Native. He grew up in Colorado, where he spent much of his childhood backpacking the Rockies. In the 1970s, his family bought a ranch in the Wind River Valley in Wyoming, and there Henderson grew attached to the unique, immense beauty of that corner of the country. When he started writing fiction, he turned back to that time on the ranch, eventually developing an expanding exploration of Wyoming and the West through his novels.

Henderson currently lives in Denver, Colorado, where he continues to write about the West. He teaches creative writing at the non-profit creative writing school Lighthouse Writers Workshop. He also teaches private students.

Henderson makes frequent appearances in Colorado and around the West. Check back for information on upcoming events.

Do you belong to a book club? Henderson makes regular visits to book clubs. If your club is near Denver, he can visit in person. If you're farther away, he can visit over the phone or through a webcam connection (he is set up on Skype). Contact him with information about your group.

"Some of the most evocative and transcendently beautiful prose in contemporary American literature."
   —Annie Proulx

"William Haywood Henderson understands the emotional landscape of the American West, defined by loss, hope, and life on the wing. . . . Henderson's writing soars."
   —Diane Smith
